  Trends in Frozen Vegetables 2004

  1. 32 million U.S. adults have tried to reduce their carb intake to lose weight and eat healthier.
  2. One in every seven Americans over the age of 18 is on a low-carb diet in some form.
  3. Low carb trend is changing product offerings by manufacturers and is rolling out in restaurants.
  4. 50 million Americans from ages 25 to 55 are on some form of diet in an effort to achieve a healthier lifestyle.
  5. Use of canola oil in frying, a less saturated fat than soybean oil.
  6. Low carb products are still in the their infancy. Marketing and packaging has to be just right. Sampling is the least expensive is the least expensive and best way to reach customers.
  7. Obesity is a huge drain on the health care system. In 2003, $75 million was spent treating obesity related illnesses.
  8. Sales of frozen veggies hit a five-year low in 2003, but hit a five-year high in dollar sales. Emphasis on low carb could boost sales in the future.
